Prison Ball

Mrs Rei taught us this fun new game called Prison Ball. The aim of game is to knock over the players cones or get all the team players out. You can get them out by throwing the ball at the person below the waist. Then they need to go to the other teams prison. But the person

who is in the prison can still play and knock the cones over. This can be done when they can get the ball. You can get out of prison if the ball bounces once and you catch it or you catch the ball on the full.

Room 15 love this game so much that we play it at lunch. Every body is welcome.

Young Achievers 2011

Helena and Jack were chosen as Lytton Street's Young Achievers for 2011. They attended a ceremony at the Civic Centre and received their certificates from Simon Power National MP for Rangitikei. He spoke about young leaders needing to have the ability to LISTEN, being COMPASSIONATE and also having EMPATHY for others.

Last man standing

Our class has made a game called Last man standing. Some people have been playing it at lunchtime. We had some problems so we decided that we would have a game as a  class. Room 15 made a rule list then we played. A lot of fun was had and there were some extremely tired people from all the running. There were also other people who cunnungly hid until they had to run!!!!!!!!

Year 5's

Tommy-I am getting ready to be a road patroler.

Jack- I am getting ready to be a road patroler.

Tom- next year I'm going to be a road patroler.

Regan-next year I'm going to be in the mini ball team

Quentin-next year I want to join frisbee touch.

Gaby-When I'm a year 6 I want to be a road patroler.

Jasmine-When I'm a year 6 I want to be in Jump Jam or Hip Hop.

Jolene-next year when I am a year 6 I want to be a road patroler .

Kiana-next year I want to be in the LSS mini ball team.

Laura- when I'm a year six I what to be a road patroler and join the LSS mini ball team and be a mediator and in choir again.

Year Six last term 2011

I want to finish of the year with no regrets.

Mini Ball Class Competition 2011

Our mini ball team played off for 1st and 2nd against Room 12 on Thursday 22 September. Room 12 won because the game went into extra time twice. The final score was 12-10. The game was played hard by both teams. Andrew from our team was named player of the final.

USA time zone is 20 hours behind New Zealand, so if it was the 20th in New Zealand it would be the 19th in USA. In USA the capital is Washington D.C and 601,000 people live in Washington D.C. In New Zealand the capital city is Wellington and 195,000 live in Wellington. New Zealand's other major cities are Auckland, Dunedin and Christchurch but in USA the other major cities are New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. My neigbours are Canada and Mexico. New Zealand's neigbours are Australia. 88 thousand people play rugby in USA and in New Zealand 138 thousand people play rugby.

The population in South Africa is 50 000 000. In New Zealand
there is only 4.4 million. In South Africa 632,000 people play rugby, in New Zealand 138,000 play rugby. The time zone in South Africa is 27 hours behind New Zealand time, so if it is 10am on Wednesday in NZ it will be 7am Tuesday morning in South Africa.

Mini ball Class Competition

On Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes a year 5/6 mini ball class competition is happening. Room 15 have won both their games so far, 10 -2 against Room 14 and 12 - 4 against Room 13. We won our pool so our next game is against Room 10 who came second in their pool. We will have to win that game to make the final.

Our team members are: Jack W, Andrew, Riley, Sam, Regan, Tom, Katie, TK, Grace, Laura, Jasmine, Kiana and Kaea.

Room 15 Representatives

This term Room 15 has had several people represent our school at different events.
Lachlan, Jack and Andrew at Mathex and Andrew at a Chess tournament at Kimbolton.
Sam and Riley as members of the Aces netball team playing in the McDonalds springtime netball tournament in Levin.
We are very proud of the extra effort that goes towards these events.

Mrs Logan an author

On the 17 August 2011 Mrs Logan come along and read us her wonderful stories about history in the Manawatu region. One of Mrs Logan's stories is going to be published and is very suitable for kids. Miss Inskeep who used to be a DP at our school brought Mrs Logan along. We all enjoyed her stories and hope she is able to come in again. We know she is looking for children to illustrate some of her stories.

FIS Wearable Arts Drama

On Thursday 8th June a class from Feilding Intermediate School (FIS) came to Lytton street school. They presented some mini plays to the year 5/6 classes. The costumes they wore were from their Wearable Arts.
We found that the plays were hilarious and there costumes were very creative.

THE MARAE VISIT

Response to the Marae Visit

On Thursday the 23rd of June Room 15 and Room 14 went to the Aorangi marae. At the marae we learnt a lot of new things. We took turns at looking at parts of the marae. Room 15 started inside the meeting house known as the wharenui. In the wharenui we looked at parts of the rafters and backbone. On the rafters there were kowhaiwhai patterns. Also on the backbone there were kowhaiwhai patterns that repeated its self. We had to do a sketch of the backbone and rafters.
After we finished we went out to the front gate/wahanui. Out at the front gate we had to draw and write all the names on the front gate into our topic book. The names were Te Rama, Meihana, Kapene and Aperahama. Tahuriwakanui Hapu was the tribe name tribe.
After we looked at the front gate we went to the dining hall known as the wharekai and said our karakia. Room 15 said theirs first then Room 14.
After we had our kai we went into the wharenui and said our mihi. A mihi is when you introduce yourself in Maori. We took turns at saying our mihi. Room 15 then Room 14.
After we finished we went back to Lytton Street School.

I learnt that there was another name for the meeting house/wharenui/whare tupuna - Andrew.

I learnt that the marae was like a person because the front gate was like the mouth and the meeting house was the body - Kiana
